The
Great Canadian Quiz Show took place at John Norquay Elementary School
in Room 102 at 12:15 pm on March 11, 2005. The five teams lined
up behind five chairs at a long table with a while tablecloth draped
over it. The person in front of his team's line sits on the chair
in front of his team. The teams were put in order so that the person
in front is in the same age group as his opponents (the people in
front of the other teams). A plastic trumpet-like toy (with a pad
on the end which you push to make a noise) is laid upside-down on
the table. It acts as a buzzer. The teams were Beavers, Caribou,
Geese, Grizzlies and Moose. Press the button and stand up
first to answer the question, which could be worth two points, one
point, fifteen points or even twenty. |

When Ms. Holmes told Connie and me that we were chosen as the class represensatives to take part in the Great Canadian Quiz Show, I felt quite nervous. I didn't care how I felt though, I knew that our whole class was counting on us and I knew that I wouldn't want to let them down. That's one reason why I had the courage. The other reason is that I kept telling myself that it would be a new experience. After we got our study guides, I got right to work. Every night I would go on the internet to look for answers to the questions on the study guide. It took me many nights to get the answers, since I had homework too. The day before the Great Canadian Quiz Show, Connie and I asked for permission from Ms. Holmes to go study together at the library. To find answers to the questions, we used books and the web. Ms. Holmes helped us and also some of our classmates, who helped or tried to help us to answer the study guide questions. I must give special thanks to Ms. Holmes, and all of my classmates. Maybe not all of our classmates helped on the study guide, but I know that they all had cheered us on! Finally, the day had come. I was very scared. Right after we ate our lunch, we walked up to room 102. I was confused when I saw what was set up. There were five teams: Caribou, Geese, Moose, Beavers and Grizzlies. I was very mixed up, I thought: "Isn't it supposed to be a class thing?". Our opponents were the people in our grade. Unfortunatley, I didn't even get to answer one question at all! Not because I didn't know the answer, but I wasn't fast enough! At last it was over, the Beavers had won. Back in class, some people asked did we win, all I said was that it was not a class thing, and what happened was very unexpected. Yes, my team had not won, but I did not feel bad at all, because studying for the quiz show had gained my knowledge about Canada. Anyways, congratulations to the Beavers, who won with pride!
