On Monday Dec 12/05, Mr. Ewert's class and Ms. Adam's/Ms. Goodtrack's class went up Grouse Mountain for a field trip. We departed at 8:30. The bus ride was about 40-45 minutes long. When we got there, we took pictures and went to the washroom, we also saw a wild wolf by the parking lot! Then, we got our tickets and prepared to go to the Valley Station to go on the gondola. While we were on the gondola, we saw many trees on the mountain. It took us about 8 minutes to get to the Alpine Station.
When we got to the Alpine Station we went to the hiwus Feasthouse to listen and learn about the Aboriginal people. The man who told us about the stories was from a Aboriginal family. He sang us songs that Aboriginal people sang. He also put us into four grouse and told us to dance. The four groups were categorized as the wolves, whales, eagles and ravens. He also told us a story about a greedy seagull that stole the sun. What we learned from this story was not to be greedy or selfish and to share. Then, we left for our next activity which was the ice-rink.
When we got to the rink, we lined up for our skates. After we got them, we skated around the rink.
People who didn't know how to skate used "stands" to help them so they wouldn't fall. We skated for an hour and then we had lunch in the
Chalet. After we had lunch, we set off to the Tyee Lodge to learn about endangered species.
While we were walking there, we saw a hill and the teachers said we could slide down. At first only a few people went but after watching others, everyone soon started to slide down. It was lots
of fun, but soon after we set to the Tyee Lodge.
When we got to the Tyee Lodge we split into two groups. Ms. Goodtrack/Ms. Adam's class watched a slideshow while Mr. Ewert's class were learning about tracking animals, grizzly bears and endangered species. Later, we switched. The slideshow was about endangered species, their habitat, their prey and why they're endangered. The animals we learned about were yellow spotted frogs, spotted owls and marmots. After learning about them, we headed back to the Alpine Station and back down the mountain and back to school. by
