Three
Days on The Sunless Coast
On Wednesday
afternoon, after lunch, we went into the Rec. Hall. We played a game
called Hewey, Dewey, Louie. I was in Tiffany and Pauline's group.
Pauline was Hewey, Tiffany was Dewey and I was Louie. They called
Louie first and I had a lot of trouble crawling. Because my knees
were bleeding, and they weren't healed yet, Ross, the staff
member,.. took my place in the game. When he did I started laughing
because Pauline is so short and small. They called Louie and when
Ross crawled around and got back he went under Pauline and she was
sitting on him and he was still running. Mr. Ewert told her that next
time she should close her legs really tight and ride him like a bull. On Wednesday evening we went into the Rec. Hall to play
some games. One person from each group had to dress up and act like a
character. There was Harish as Elmo, Farisha as Tarzan, Garry N. as
Cinderella, Tommy as Barbie, Desmond as Arnold Schwarzenegger, and
Joe as Britney Spears. It was a contest and the person from each
group had to find things to go with their outfit. I thought Tarzan
was the best because it made me laugh so hard. After we finished we
did some campfire songs. It was really, really fun and there was one
song everyone enjoyed singing and dancing to; it's called Bazooka
Bubblegum. After that we had a snack and went back to our lodges and
cabins. Some people stayed behind to listen to the hockey game on the
radio. The Vancouver Canucks were defeated by the Anaheim Ducks! I was doing the last activity of the day canoeing.
I didn't have a partner so I had to go with Dave, the staff member. I
thought it was going to be boring because I couldn't talk to any of
my friends. Anthony Cheung and Andy Tran were in one canoe and they
asked if we could play battleship. Dave said no but he started
playing anyway. Whenever we got near Andy and Anthony we would crash
them. We crashed them so hard that their canoe almost tipped over. I
had never gone canoeing before so it was a good experience and it was
a lot fun. by Karen Quan

Three Days on the Sunless Coast
Camp: Ch. 1 A Wet Camp The first time we went to the meeting
place, the wet bleachers, it was raining, I said to myself, if it
rains for three days, I really need to talk to Nature. Unfortunately,
it rained for all three days. The first day was okay because there
weren't any outside activities, except for when we played stones. It
wasn't raining hard though. The second day, most of the activities
where outside, and it was still raining! By the time it was dinner,
we were dirty and tired. The third day, as we all know, was still
raining, But I didn't complain, because I realized I had made a
mistake. For a person to love nature, is to love every part of it. We
are part of it too. So if you hate nature, you hate yourself.
Camp: Ch. 2 The Best Day
The best day was the second day. It
started out bad. Hardly anyone was cheerful, because they woke up so
early. At the middle of the day, everyone was going wild. I didn't
even care about the rain because I was already dirty. We had
leadership, kayaking, hiking, archery, then canoing. Kayaking was the
funniest, probably because I was controlling it myself and had
confidence. One thing I learned that day was that archery is
difficult. I underestimated it. I also had a change of personality.
Now, when I get dirty, I don't care much about it.
Camp: Ch 3. I'm Going home The last day came. We started with
some breakfast, then did our last activity. My group was doing beach
study. I however, listened to my friend's advice and wore sandals and
shorts which gave me trouble. I slipped on a rock and it cut deep
into one of my toes. I was sent back to my cabin. When I finally
reached my destination, the activities were done! I even saw my group
coming back. I learned another lesson that day. Be careful of who you
trust, and use common sense.
These three days of camping
transformed my mind and body. I now can handle my hunger, don't get
cold easily, and am nicer to the people around me. Now, if you were
to tell me there's another camp, no matter
what the environment is, I would say, Bring it on!
